Breakthrough for lignin?
For decades, intensive research has been carried out into what can be made from this biological feedstock. So far, however, there has been no commercial breakthrough, and it has always been said that lignin can be used to make anything but money. But times seem to have changed. This year, we have received more abstract submissions than ever before, and the best companies are showcasing their lignin business models in a dedicated conference session, while two nominees will pitch their innovations in the award session for the "Renewable Material of the Year 2025". Exciting!

7 Presentations on lignin at the Renewable Materials Conference (RMC), 22–24 September 2025 in Siegburg/Cologne (Germany).

RMC presents solutions and innovations for replacing fossil carbon with biomass, CO2 utilisation and advanced recycling. RMC covers the entire value chain from alternative carbon feedstocks, the chemical industry, the materials sector, product manufacturers to brand owners, as well as investors and policy makers. Nearly 500 participants from 32 countries attended the last conference in June 2024, 90% of them from industry. This year we expect more than 500 participants, 75 presentations, 20 panel discussions and 12 workshops.

Below you will find the 5 presentations in the session „Lignocellulosic Biorefineries and Lignin Utilisation" (22 September) and two in the Innovation Award session (23 September):
